Quaker Oatmeal Real Medleys

Have you tried the new Quaker Oat Real Medleys?

so. darn. good.

I have a HUGE sweet tooth, so I'm always looking for healthier sweet things to snack on/eat as a meal. I picked a couple of these up at Target, and they are DELICIOUS! The Cherry Pistachio Oatmeal flavor is better than a piece of cake - try it!

In college I would eat a Quaker Oats Express cup, but these new cups are healthier - they have better, cleaner ingredients. There is some added sugar, but that's okay. They also have 250+ calories each, so I eat these alone as a snack or with a serving of dairy as a meal. :)

Because they're individually-packaged, they do have extra waste, so I would only eat these as a special treat, if you have no time to make breakfast at home, or you're really craving something sweet.

You can get a coupon for 50 cents off here.

    1. It really is delicious - I had actually never had pistachios before, but I really like them. You add some water and then either let it sit (if the water was boiling) or microwave it (if the water was cold) and you're good to go :)

Oh..so it's kind of sweet oatmeal porridge(since we add water there).I think we can make it in home made version since we don't have that version here:D By adding raisin/cherry,pistachio,and almond to it.Anyway,I prefer oven to microwave.I read somewhere that microwave foods aren't healthy(since they use that electro wave). Is that true?:S

    3. Microwaves are part of the electromagnetic spectrum. When you microwave food, the microwaves are absorbed by water, fats and sugars and are converted into atomic motion (i.e., heat). In other words, the food itself is heated up. Ovens work differently - the oven heats up, and eventually the food inside is brought to the same temperature (through conduction). Because of this, microwaves cook food in less time, saving electricity.

As long as you only use microwave-safe materials (no aluminum foil or non-microwave safe plastics), they are safe to use.

Also - some people don't like microwaves because foods lose nutrients if they are overcooked and people tend to over zap food in microwaves. As long as you don't overcook your food (in either a microwave or an oven) your food will stay nutritious!

    Susan, I love your blog!
Wanted to chime in on the microwave issue--people were really worried about potential health side effects in the late-mid 20th Century (not sure if was 60s or 70s when microwaves came out...). What you said about microwaves being safe is true, though! Although I know some plastic containers can release theoretically harmful particles if microwaved.

As for the oatmeal, thanks for the recommendation--I'm always looking for a quick breakfast and can't wait to try it.

    :)
